What is the difference between EOS and EOP ?

Ethernet Over SDH (EOS) and EOP (Ethernet Over PDH) are important technology to transmit data in communication networks.

What is the difference between EOS and EOP ? After reading this article, you can understand about what is EOS, what is EOP, and what is the difference between EOS and EOP.

What is EOS

SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) is a digital transmission standard. it defines as a multiplex technology used in the telecommunication. Ethernet Over SDH (EOS) is a technology that transmit Ethernet data over Synchronous Digital Architecture (SDH) networks. International standard (G.7041, G.7042, G.7043, G.8040) protocols are used for all layers of protocol processing, which can be used with other manufacturers' products that follow the same standards. The ethernet over SDH equipment is highly integrated, low power consumption, stable performance and easy to use.

SDH can connect devices both point-to-point and ring-connection with different manufactures.

What is EOP

PDH(Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy is an early digital transmission standard to handle the transport of digital signals over copper and fiber-optic networks.

EOP (Ethernet Over PDH) transmit local Ethernet frames over existing telecom copper infrastructure via the Parasynchronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH) transmission technology to transport native Ethernet frames over existing telecommunications copper infrastructure.

Standard technologies employed by EoP include frame encapsulation, link aggregation, link capacity adjustment, and management messaging. Although EoP was created for point-to-point transmission of Ethernet over PDH tributaries, when combined with legacy SONET/SDH networks, EoP becomes an important, cost-effective tool for the transmission of Ethernet services.

What is the difference between EOS and EOP ?

The main difference is that EOS using SDH protocol, while EOP using PDH protocol to transmit Ethernet datas.

EOS can support ring network and star-link application while EOP device CANNOT. And EOS device can be compatible with different brands devices while EOP can only be used by the devices belong to same brand.

EOS device has strong management function, can monitor many parameters working status. EOP has simple management. Simply say, EOS ethernet over SDH device has strong functions and features than EOP device. Of course, EOS device price is higher than EOP device.

EoS is created for point-to-point and ring-network transmission of Ethernet over SDH, and different brands of converters can be connected to each other.

EoP is created for point-to-point transmission of Ethernet over PDH. Converters of different brands cannot be connected to each other. PDH only supports the same manufacturer.
