Fiber Optic Cable Types

Fiber Optic Cables are special cables that use light to send data. Instead of using electricity like regular wires, it has tiny glass or plastic strands inside that let optical travel through it. Because laser optical moves very fast and fiber optic cables can send information very quickly and over long distances without losing quality .

Fiber Optic Cables used for things like internet , phone calls and TV signals . Because it provide a strong and reliable connection . In short , Fiber optic cables help to make the internet faster and more reliable.

There are many Fiber Optic Cables types based on how they are made and what they are used for. 

It has a very thin core, uses a single beam of laser optic light to carry data over long distances, best for long distance communication, provides a stronger signal over miles without losing quality.

It has a wide core, uses multiple beams of light at the same time,works well for short distances , price is cheap but not good for long distances because the signal weaknens faster.

There are also different grades of Fiber Optic Cables, like OM1,OM2,OM3,OM4 and OM5 for multi-mode fiber . OS1,OS2 for single-mode fiber. These grades affact speed , distance and performance .

Fiber Optic Cables can be installed in different ways depending on the environment. Here are three installation methods:

Installed on utility poles or towers, similar to power lines. Commonly used in places where underground installation is difficult.

The duct optical fiber cables are placed inside protective plastic or metal pipes underground. Provides good protection from invironmental damage .

Direct Buried Fiber Optic Cables

Cables are buried directly into the ground without extra proetive piping .More durable than overhead cables but harder to repair if damaged .

 

Drop Fiber Optic Cable 

Drop Cables connect the main fiber optic network to homes and buildings.There are also 2 types of Drop cable. Indoor drop cable and outdoor drop cable.

Indoor Drop Cable : These cables are used inside homes, offices and buildings.

Outdoor Drop Cable : These cables are used outside buildings,on poles.

How to Choose Fiber Optic Types

To choose the correct fiber cable, there are three factors which need to be considered:

1. What type of optical cable does the customer need?

2. How many cores are needed? And does he need SM or MM? if he needs MM,OM1.OM2,OM3 or OM4 and so on.

3. How many kilometers are needed?

If you need ADSS fiber cable, we also need to confirm the span length, for example, Span 80meter, span 100meter, span 120meter and so on.

And the optical cable is sold in units of one kilometer.
